Upgrading and My It List

Happy FRIDAY!  It's been a long week, so I am ready for a nice sunny weekend! Today I had to dress up for work and since I wore skirts two days in a row I decided to wear pants today.  I am wearing one of my favorite blazers, that I coveted and bought on sale at White House Black Market.  When I bought the blazer I thought the buttons cheapened the look of it so I bought some new buttons and changed them.  I think when you buy a piece or you want to update a piece of clothing, this kind of thing is so easy to do and can not only update your look but it can make something look more luxurious, it's definitely worth the effort!
See below for my IT list!

My It List.  This collection of items is something I made in Polyvore to show you the types of things that are on my current shopping list.  I want to add some colorful skirts and blazers into my wardrobe as well a few accessories!  Plus a pair of Olive cargo pants (olive pants are a neutral you know), this way I can really step out of my fashion box and pair them with something other than brown or black (you'll be in the front row for when that happens!)

My Leopard Wedge Shoe Indulgence

Yesterday (with a little push from my sister), I bought a pair of shoes I have been drooling over.  I tried on these shoes a couple of weekends ago and fell in love with them.  They were too expensive for me but I decided to keep an eye out for them online to see when they went on sale.  Well they did start to go on sale and starting disappearing as well!  So I finally went to Macy's yesterday and ordered them.  Although they were full price ($99), I had two gift cards to use and ended up spending only $17 on these fabulous shoes.  I felt very indulgent and a bit annoyed because I never buy things that expensive (even though I barely spent any of my own money, it still felt very indulgent).  But after that feeling wore off, I just started getting excited.  I can't wait to get them, I will put an outfit together specifically to showcase these shoes when I get them! What do you think? (thanks for talking me into them sis!)

Getting my hopes up!

It's Spring!  But I won't get my hopes up, because this is the Midwest and anything can happen.  I did however just go for it and not wear tights today (oh boy, do I need to get the self-tanner lotion going). Take that WINTER!

Remixable Wardrobe

Today, I wanted to bring you the next installment of Putting Me Together's- Building a Remixable Wardrobe, Part 3: The Importance of Colored Bottom.

I do have to say Audrey is right, putting colored bottoms and patterned bottoms is a really easy way to stretch your wardrobe.  The other thing I learned about buying colored/patterned bottoms is that if, a color doesn't look good near your face, that doesn't mean that you can't wear it on your bottom half!

I have a fuller bust and fare skin, which means that I don't usually wear lighter colors or pastels on my top half, not only do they tend to make me look top heavy but they also wash me out.  However, that does mean that I can't wear lighter colors on bottom, I am going to use Audrey's advice and invest in some light colored bottoms for the Spring and Summer!

She works hard for her money

Today I am wearing something I consider a very casual outfit for work, however if I were to wear this going out for lunch or something, I would consider it a step up from casual.  I wore this today because I am tired and I knew that I had a lot to do today, so I wanted to make sure I was comfortable, to make sure and get everything done!

Hope everyone has a great week!

Accessory Overload

Happy Friday!  It's no secret I LOVE me some accessories.  I don't leave the house with anything less than 3 rings (my wedding rings & another ring), 6 earrings (I have 3 holes in each ear), a necklace (or 2) my watch, a bracelet (or 2) and possibly a scarf or belt.  I know this seems like overload, but I truly think this is what makes my style totally me.

Once again I learned about accessories through my grandma.  She's got two drawers full of accessories that I secretly love to go through when I am at her house (just like my sister and I did when we were younger).  My Grandma loves to match her accessories exactly to her outfit.  She also really tries to match her earrings to her necklace.  I learned from her how to accessorize. Now though I am trying to step away from all the matchy matchy and go for more contrast and mixing things up, hence my outfit today.  My outfit itself is pretty simple because my accessories are the focus.  I mixed a animal print belt with a beautiful handmade scarf that I bought from Etsy, from a woman in Turkey.  Usually I do not do international orders, but after seeing this woman's Etsy website I had to give it a try.  Her scarves are magnificent, and VERY affordable.  Check it out here!

Birds of a Feather

If you told me a year ago that I would be wearing a shirt with birds on it, I would have told you, you were crazy!  However, here I am today with birds on my shirt!  I guess you really start to think out of the box when you start wearing patterns.  Patterns really do add a lot of variety to your wardrobe.  I encourage anyone who wants to refresh their wardrobe to invest in patterned shirts, skirts, dresses, pants and accessories like jewelry and scarves.  By just adding a few pieces to your wardrobe you could really refresh your wardrobe without spending a lot of money.  Now if I could just get into mixing patterns then, I'd be all set!
