Disappearing Act

Hello, as some of you may of noticed I haven't been posting the past few weeks.  The first week of not posting was because I was having technical difficulties, then I was on vacation and last week, well I have no excuse.

I have decided that I will not be blogging anymore.  This is not due to the lack of interest (I know it takes a lot of time and effort to build interest) but because of the lack of time.  I was able to blog on a daily basis because my work life was slow, now that it's picking up I need to concentrate on that.

Also, I feel as if blogging was causing me more stress than it was helping to alleviate stress.  I love clothes and shopping and putting outfits together and I feel like in the short 3 months I was doing this I learned a lot about style and my own style.

I do feel like I stepped out of my box.  But because I stepped out of my box, I found that I lost part of my true self along the way.  It's ok if my outfits are simple or if I don't like to wear lots of colors, etc.  That's me.  During the blogging process I was trying to do so many different things to take my style even further, I feel as though I was on the road to changing my style instead of just improving it.  The process of improving and changing my style was exhausting.  Trying to plan out my outfits every day so they were "perfect."  I actually never wore the same outfit twice, which is admirable, but EXHAUSTING.

I also feel as if by trying to step out of my box so much I was taking myself further away from what my true stye is and I have always liked my style (there is always room for improvement).  While blogging and reading other fantastic blogs, it fueled my desire to shop and get new things.  This was also a good and a bad thing.  I think that it helped me to not keep buying the same thing over and over again, but it also made me feel as if I had to keep up with all the trends.  I realize now this is impossible.

I read in a book excerpt the other day : "I have found (through careful and bemused observance) that the women who take fashion and style too seriously start to go a bit crazy, and crazy looks good on very, very select few.  Cool, calm and confident however, looks good on pretty much anyone."  (from "The Little Black Book" of Style Nina Garcia).

This quote says it exactly.  And so I have decided to focus on other things in my life, rather than focusing so much on my appearance and the clothes I wear.  I have decided to work on my inner confidence rather than trying to create more confidence by the clothes I wear.  I understand that feeling put together and pretty helps boost your confidence but it should never be the source.

For those of you bloggers who have been doing this for a long time.  Kudos to you, I am infinitely impressed.  And for those of you who read my blog, thanks for reading and thanks for your comments.

*Remember in the future if you're ever at a loss of what to wear "when in doubt wear red."

Loving this Weather

Happy Friday (the 13th)! Personally, I think 60 degree weather is fantastic.  I felt so light today wearing just a light jacket and a light sweater.  Going to be a long weekend.  Stay tuned next week for my scarf post!
Have a great weekend!

A Case for Brown

About 5 years ago, I was introduced to the color brown.  Oh sure I knew there was a color brown and I wore it sometimes.  However, whenever I wore anything with color I usually paired it with black.  Until one day I bought a brown sweater and started wearing it with blues and greens, etc.  Now brown is a wardrobe staple for me.  Do you wear brown?

More Scarves

Today I wore yet another scarf.  They are just perfect for the type of weather we're having in the Midwest.  Also, the way I am wearing my scarf today makes me feel like I am wearing a printed top or a really elaborate necklace.  It doesn't matter that I am wearing all black on top because the scarf acts as my visual interest.  A friend of mine asked me how I like to wear scarves and how to wear scarves when it's warm out.  Stay tuned next week, I will do a post on everything scarves!

I apologize for how bad the picture is. I didn't notice when taking the picture how bad the lighting and the dust was!

An advocate for scarves

I am a huge advocate for scarves.  I have been wearing scarves for over 10 years.  Not only to stay warm but to add interest to an outfit.  Look at how boring my outfit looks without a scarf and when I add a complimentary scarf to it, it's much more interesting.  Very subtle but more interesting.  Do you wear scarves?

Back in the Saddle

Well, I'm back in the saddle.  I had a weird week last week and missed some days blogging.  But I'm back, sorry for my absence!  The weather here is still a bit cooler (which I secretly like) and so I wanted to wear jeans and a blazer.  I am really liking mixing navy blue with other colors lately.

I also wanted to blog about this great product that I use on occasion.  It's called Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs.  It's basically makeup that goes on your legs.  Normally, I just wear self-tan lotion, but I forget how nice this Sally Hansen spray makes your legs look.  For me it's not necessarily looking like I have a tan but to cover up my REALLY white legs and so my veins don't show as much.  The best thing is it just washes right off!

Stripes

Stripes are a complicated pattern.  Especially for someone who has a larger chest.  I have found some stripes work and some don't.  But it all depends on the size of the stripes, the cut and color and the fabric.  I recently purchased a Gap gray and white striped blazer.  I really stepped out of my box here because normally I don't wear such light colors (I love me my jewel tones) and I am still a little new to the stripes world.  I really like it, the blazer fits perfectly and I think the navy colored t-shirt I have on makes me feel more comfortable wearing something so light.  What do you think of stripes?  How do you wear your stripes?

Crabbiness

Hello everyone! Sorry I missed yesterday, trust me no one wants to see what I looked like yesterday.  But today is a new day, thank goodness!  Even though my outfit is dressy and has a pop of color, I'm still crabby.  A couple of my girlfriend's agree, it's been a crabby past few weeks.  Hopefully, the start of a new month will snap us back into reality and we can feel fabulous again...because we are in fact fabulous.  Are you crabby right now?  What do you do to feel fabulous?

Rain rain go away

Happy Friday! It's a rainy gloomy day today.  I tried to not let the gloom get me down and wear a bright color.  I chose purple today.  This is a shirt I got from Express the other day.  On sale for $22!  I love me a sale. Do you only shop sale items, or do you allow yourself to splurge a little bit now and then?  What do you splurge on?

Daily Deal
The only items I buy full price are items under $30 and bras.  I don't skimp on bras.  You absolutely get your money's worth.  I went to Intimacy to get a bra fitting about a year and a half ago and it changed my life! Not only did look like I immediately dropped 15 pounds, I was able to fit better in my clothes and not sag.  I went into their store wearing a 38DD and walked out wearing a 34G.  What a difference!  The prices just about made me pass out.  But when I looked at my tatas all high and dry and found out that I could get the bras altered for FREE for the life of the bra, I decided to go for it!  Have you ever been a professional bra fitter before?
Just as a side note...this is the little sad face I had to leave this morning.  He was scared of the thunder.  Wish I could have stayed in bed like he gets to all day!

Thrifting Thursday

I decided not to show my outfit today because I went thrift store shopping so I didn't have on anything significant.  I did pick up some good Spring/Summer outfit staples today while I was thrifting.  What do you think?

After spending so much money buying retail eyeglasses I discovered Coastal.com.  They sometimes give free pairs of glasses away all you have to do is pay for the lenses.  The deal below is good for a pair of glasses for $49 (including the Rx lenses) plus free shipping.  I got my current pair of glasses for $30, and I LOVE them.  They even have a really good tutorial on how to measure your face for glasses.  Try them out!

Wintery Spring

This weather is so confusing.  I don't know if I should wear boots with no tights, tights with shoes, or no tights?  I decided on wearing tights with shoes, that way I didn't look too "wintery" since it is Spring and it's about 68 degrees.  Do you  have specific "rules" you follow when it comes to boots, skirts and tights?

New Looks

Happy Saturday! (sorry I missed Friday) It was a rainy day yesterday and a bit chillier than it's been in a couple of weeks.  I wore one of my favorite jacket/blazers with one of my favorite scarves and instead of tying the scarf in some fancy way I just let it hang.  I really like this look and will probably do it again soon!

Daily Deal
Went shopping with my grandma yesterday.  I have been wanting to go to JCPenney to see their new clothes and to see their new way of doing things. Click here if you haven't seen the new commercials (featuring Ellen) or their new marketing initiative. I'm in market research so I was very interested in seeing how this new strategy would work for them.  Basically JcPenney had to overhaul their stores in order to stay in business.  Consumers that shopped at JCPenney were ONLY buying their sale items, so basically they decided to revamp their approach.  Not only did they lower their prices by 40% they also implemented a new way of pricing things.  Instead of their tags saying $14.99 or $34.99, they simply say $15 or $35. Also there are two price systems;"Everyday" prices and "Best"prices, which are items that are on clearance.  New items are given "Best" prices every first and third Friday of the month.  They also have streamlined their tags to be easy to read, no more stickers overlapping stickers, or signs that say 40% off the lowest price, yadda yadda.  And last but not least they have little boutiques inside their stores.  For instance MNG by Mango has all of their merchandise in one area, just like other department stores like Macy's are organized.

With that being said, I saw a lot of great merchandise for good prices.  I picked up two items at the "Best" price.  I bought this skirt of $10 and a shirt for $9! To see jcp's new website click here.

Casual Pencil Skirt

Today I was able to dress more casually and I decided to try something I read on the Putting Me Together blog.  In Audrey's post "Ways to Dress Down a Pencil Skirt" she shows you different ways you can take our pencil skirt and make it more casual.  Until I read this post I would always wear this pencil skirt with a blazer and a fancier top to dress up for work. I never tried to dress it down.  Audrey from Putting Me Together is a master at creating a larger wardrobe simply by remixing your clothes.  Check out her remixing tips

Is simple good?

I love wearing this blazer and all black.  But after a few weeks of trying to mix it up a bit with colors, I was stumped when it came to this outfit.  I am not sure what other colors to pair with this outfit.  I just want to give it a little pizazz, or to add something to give it a different look...What would you pair with this outfit?

p.s. Sorry for the horrible picture of myself.  My sister is cringing right now with how bad the lighting is here.  This weekend I need to work on finding a better place to take my pictures!
